Pixcrate ("the Extension") is provided by Apoorv Verma, an individual seller based in Jaipur, Rajasthan, India. It is designed to be privacy-first and fully local.
What we collect
The Extension does not collect, store, or transmit your browsing history, the contents of pages you visit, personal information, or any analytics or telemetry.
Local processing
All image discovery, filtering, format conversion, renaming, previewing and ZIP creation happen entirely on your device. Images you download are written directly to your computer. No image data and no page data is sent to us or to any third party.
Network activity
The Extension makes network requests in exactly five situations:
- When you export images using the ZIP or format-conversion options, the Extension downloads the image files you selected, from the web addresses found on the page you are viewing. This is how the files reach your device. Nothing is sent to us.
- When you download images without the ZIP or conversion options, the Extension gives the web addresses to your browser's own download manager, which fetches the files directly. The Extension never handles the file data itself, and nothing is sent to us.
- When you ask the Extension to measure images whose dimensions are unknown, it loads those images to read their size. These are normally served from your browser's cache.
- If you hold a paid licence, the Extension checks it with Dodo Payments' licence service. This happens when you activate a key, when you open the Extension (at most once a minute, so opening it repeatedly does not repeat the check), and before a ZIP or format-conversion export. It sends only the licence key and an identifier for this device, and receives a valid or invalid status in reply. When you first activate a key it also sends a short device label, such as "Chrome on Windows", so that you can recognise your own devices in your account. If you do not hold a licence, none of these requests occur.
- Only if you press Show previews, the Extension re-requests the images on the page you are viewing so that it can generate thumbnails for them. This is off by default and never happens on its own. No cookies or sign-in details are sent, the addresses are the same ones the page has already loaded from, and the thumbnails are created and kept on your device. Nothing is sent to us.
In every case above, the addresses contacted are ones found on the page you are viewing, or Dodo Payments' licence service. The Extension does not contact any other address.
Scanning a page, filtering and renaming make no network requests at all. If you do not hold a licence, opening the Extension does not contact the network at all. If you hold one, the only request is the licence check described in situation 4 above.
Thumbnails are generated from images your browser has already decoded. Where that is not possible, the Extension shows a plain placeholder tile instead, unless you explicitly press Show previews.
We operate no server. No data about you, your browsing, or the pages you visit is transmitted anywhere at any time.
Payments
Payments are processed by Dodo Payments, which acts as the Merchant of Record for all purchases. You can manage your subscription, update your payment method and retrieve your licence key at any time from your account with Dodo Payments. Checkout takes place on Dodo Payments' own hosted checkout page, opened in a separate browser tab. We never see, handle, or store your card details. Please refer to Dodo Payments' privacy policy for how they handle payment information.
Permissions
The Extension requests the minimum permissions required for it to function:
- activeTab and scripting: to read the images on the page you are actively viewing, only when you click the Extension.
- downloads: to save the images and ZIP archives you select to your device.
- storage: to store your licence key and your free daily download count on your own device. Whether the licence is currently valid is never written to disk; it is checked with Dodo Payments.
- offscreen: to perform image format conversion and ZIP creation in a hidden document, since the Extension's background process has no display of its own.
- Access to the licence-validation service, solely to check a licence key you enter.
Access to other websites is requested only at the moment you export images from them, and only for the specific sites your selected images come from. The Extension does not use remotely hosted code.
Data retention
If you purchase a licence, your licence key and an identifier for this device are stored locally in your browser, together with the last four characters of the key and your plan name so that the Extension can show you which licence is active. Whether the licence is currently valid is never written to disk; it is checked with Dodo Payments as described in situation 4 above, and the answer is held only in memory, for at most a minute, purely so that opening the window twice in a row does not repeat the check. Your licence key never leaves your device except in those checks.
A count of how many images you have downloaded today is also kept, solely to apply the free daily limit. It is stored on your device and resets each day.
The list of images found on a page exists only in memory while the Extension's window is open, and is discarded when you close it. It is never saved or transmitted.
You can remove everything the Extension has stored by uninstalling it.
Which browsers this policy covers
Pixcrate is published for Google Chrome and for Microsoft Edge, and it is the same software in both. Everything on this page applies whichever browser you installed it in. The two sections below name each store separately because each store asks for a statement in its own words, not because the Extension behaves differently in them.
Microsoft Edge Add-ons
Pixcrate collects no personal information in Microsoft Edge. It reads the images on the one page you open it on, and their web addresses, so that it can list them for you to choose from. Nothing is sent to a server of ours, because there isn’t one, and nothing is sold, shared or transferred to anyone. The only address the Extension contacts other than the ones on the page you are viewing is Dodo Payments, and only if you buy or hold a licence.
Chrome Web Store Limited Use
Pixcrate's use of information received from the browser adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
In practice that means the only thing the Extension reads is the images on the one page you open it on, and their web addresses, so that it can list them for you to choose from. That is the feature you installed it for, it is described on the Chrome Web Store listing and in the Extension’s own window, and the information is not used for anything else, not sold, and not transferred to anyone.
Children
The Extension is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect any information from them.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a revised date above. Material changes will also be noted in the Extension's release notes.
